We recognise that finding employment is the most effective way of improving living standards and becoming less dependent on welfare benefits. Moving from benefits to employment can be challenging but there are schemes available to help people get back into work.
The Youth Employment Scheme is designed for 18 to 24 year olds and helps them to develop skills in writing CV’s and applications, as well as helping with interview skills. It also offers a place on work experience programmes.
‘Steps to Sucess’ offers extra help for those adults that need it to get back into employment.
Local Jobs and Benefit Offices and Job Centres can provide better-off calculations to work out how much better off claimants might be by taking up employment. In many cases the figure is around £100-£150 per week.
Financial incentives are also available to eligible customers to make it easier to get back to work including help with travel expenses and childcare assistance. For further information contact the nearest Job and Benefit Office or Job Centre on free phone 0800 353530.
