Newtownards staff participated in maintaining the Kiltonga Hope Garden for Reflection as part of the Business in the Community ‘Be a Saint’ initiative.
The Garden of Reflection is situated at the Duck Pond at Kiltonga Estate and is the brainchild of local woman Cathy Cash. The garden was created by Cathy for the victims and survivors of cancer and has been in existence for nearly a decade.
Our staff took part in maintaining the garden in March as part of the ‘Be A Saint’ initiative. Run by Volunteer Now, volunteers are encouraged to take part in practical challenges with a wide range of community and voluntary groups across Northern Ireland.
Michael Taylor, Ards and North Down Housing Benefits Manager said:
“I would like to congratulate all of the staff who took part in this fantastic venture. The Volunteer Now ‘Be a Saint’ gives people the opportunity to help others and put something back into the local community.
“It is widely known the strong volunteering characteristics of our Newtownards staff and this is an great example of staff giving back to the local community
“It has been lovely to see the garden develop over the years and for the relationship local Housing Executive staff have with Cathy. The friendship between our staff and Cathy has blossomed alongside the Garden for Reflection.
