Residents of Rooney Park are celebrating today (Friday 10th March), recognised as one of the best kept housing areas in Northern Ireland.
Our estate received the Best Kept  Small Housing Area at the 2016 NI Amenity Council awards. A plaque will be erected on a gable wall in  the area to recognise their achievement.
The local Grounds Maintenance team have landscaped an area with shrubs and trees, as well as the installation of new seating to further enhance the Rooney Park area.
Owen McDonnell, the South Down Area Manager said:
“We are delighted to see Rooney Park receive recognition for their hard work and efforts in improving the local area. Staff from our local Ground Maintenance Team and District Office Staff worked closely with members of the community to develop the aesthetics of Rooney Park. The new trees, shrubs and seating makes it a very attractive location for residents.
“The residents of Rooney Park have great civic pride in their area and felt the landscaping and enhancing showed commitment to making a positive contribution to the environment. Residents submitted an application which was shortlisted against strong competition and ultimately won the 2016 Best Kept Housing Small Housing Area award.
“To receive the 2016 Best Kept Housing Area NI Amenity Council award is a testimony of excellent partnership working between residents and the Housing Executive to foster vibrant communities.
Mrs Maura McAleenan, a local resident from the Rooney Park area added:
“Everyone in the area is so pleased to have won this award. Many residents have lived in the area for a long time, so they take great pride in their surroundings. It is great to have won the 2016 NI Amenity Council Best Kept Housing Area award
