Community Safety Wardens for the district
Published: Mon, 19 Dec 2016
A new community safety initiative, which will see Community Safety Wardens operating across the Fermanagh and Omagh district, has been launched.
The Community Safety Warden programme, which is delivered by Fermanagh and Omagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and is jointly funded by us, aims to improve community safety by addressing low-level crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Community Safety Wardens will work closely with local communities and agencies such as the PSNI, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and us, to provide a coordinated response to community safety issues and reduce the fear of crime.
The uniformed Community Safety Wardens will also undertake high visibility patrols on foot and in a liveried vehicle across the district. Patrols will take place throughout the week and at weekends, in the evenings and into the night. The patrols will target previously identified areas where there has been low-level crime to act as a deterrent and provide a reassuring presence for residents.
Welcoming the Community Safety Warden programme for the district, Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh PCSP, Councillor Keith Elliott, said:
“Fermanagh and Omagh PCSP is pleased to work in partnership with the Housing Executive to bring Community Safety Wardens to the district.
The PCSP is committed to making the Fermanagh and Omagh district a safer place for people to live, work and visit. The Community Safety Wardens will complement and assist existing services as appropriate to help improve community safety and reduce the fear of crime.”
Oonagh McAvinney, our Area Manager for the South West, said:
“We were keen to get involved with this project and are delighted to jointly fund it. The scheme demonstrates the commitment of both organisations to making our area a safer place. The wardens will provide an essential link between the community and other statutory agencies. We look forward to successful outcomes.”
The Community Safety Warden programme will operate in the Fermanagh and Omagh district until the end of March 2017 initially.
