Limavady ladies create Christmas crafts
Published: Fri, 2 Dec 2016
Limavady residents who attend a weekly craft class, funded by us, are busy making beautiful festive gifts for Christmas.
Up to 15 local women from Glens and Coolessan estates take part in the class which is organised by Glens Community Association.
Tina McCloskey from the local group said:
“The ladies make beautiful creations including; teddy bears, snowmen, crochet blankets and beautiful quilts. The women enjoy each other’s company and learning new skills.
"Our association also provides lunch for the class so it’s very much a social event each week.
“The Housing Executive’s community grant has been essential in setting up this class. We used the funds to purchase five sewing machines and other equipment.
“The grant also allowed us to run a successful gardening programme involving 20 young people.
They made planters for flowers and helped out in our community garden, which means this year we’ll have a bumper crop of apples for everyone to enjoy!”
Our Area Manager, Mark Alexander, said:
“We are delighted to fund community initiatives that bring people together and provide an opportunity for local residents to new skills.
Sharing knowledge in a practical way is a good way to strengthen community relations and build vibrant communities.”
